Google Ad Grants

10,000 pounds per month in free Google Ads. Most charities waste it. We turn it into intelligence.

Google gives qualifying charities 10,000 pounds per month in free search advertising. The catch: the programme is designed to limit direct fundraising. The opportunity: it is the best free audience research tool in existence - if you know how to use it.

What the Grant is really for

Let us be honest about what Google Ad Grants does and does not do. Most agencies will tell you the Grant raises money directly. In our experience managing Grants for Muslim charities since 2014, the truth is more nuanced:

  • It is not a direct income generator. The programme has restrictions that deliberately limit fundraising performance: a 2 pound maximum cost-per-click, a mandatory 5% click-through rate, search network only (no display, no YouTube, no remarketing), and single-word keywords banned.
  • It is a campaign intelligence engine. Free traffic means free data. You learn which messages resonate, which keywords your donors actually search for, which landing pages convert, and which propositions attract attention - all without spending a pound.
  • It builds remarketing audiences. Every visitor from Grant traffic can be added to your remarketing pixel. Those audiences then feed directly into your paid Meta and Google campaigns where the real income comes from.
  • It gives you search presence. Your charity appears for sector-relevant terms year-round, building credibility and familiarity before donors ever see your paid campaigns.
£120k

per year in free advertising - that is the value of the Grant. Even if it generates modest direct income, the audience data alone justifies management.

How we use the Grant differently

Most Grant managers try to make the Grant raise money directly. They fight the restrictions - and lose. We use the Grant for what it is actually good at:

Message testing

Run 10 different ad headlines for free. See which ones get clicks. Use the winners in your paid campaigns where the budget is real and the stakes are higher.

Keyword intelligence

Discover what your potential donors actually search for. "Zakat calculator", "orphan sponsorship UK", "Qurbani 2026" - the search terms reveal intent you cannot get from any other source.

Landing page testing

Send free traffic to different landing pages. See which convert. Fix the broken ones before you spend real money sending donors there.

Audience building

Every Grant visitor gets pixeled. Over 3-6 months, you build a substantial remarketing audience - people who have already expressed interest in your charity. Those audiences then power your paid campaigns at dramatically better conversion rates.

Year-round presence

The Grant runs 12 months a year. While other charities only appear in Ramadan, your charity shows up in search results year-round - building the familiarity that converts at peak.

Paid campaign fuel

Once the Grant tells you what works - which messages, which audiences, which pages - we scale those findings through Muslim Advertising's paid campaigns. Free intelligence, paid income.

The restrictions (and why they do not matter)

Google designed the Grant programme as a gateway to paid advertising. The restrictions exist to limit what you can achieve for free:

  • 2 pound max CPC - limits you on competitive terms during peak. Fine for year-round intelligence gathering where CPCs are naturally lower.
  • 5% CTR minimum - forces you toward informational and brand queries (which is exactly what intelligence gathering needs). Accounts below 5% for 2 months get suspended.
  • Search only - no Display, no YouTube, no remarketing from the Grant itself. But the audiences you build feed those channels via paid.
  • Quality Score 3+ - keywords scoring below 3 must be paused. This just means maintaining relevant, well-structured campaigns (which we do regardless).
  • Conversion tracking mandatory - at least 1 conversion per month required. Easy to maintain with proper setup.

These restrictions make the Grant poor for direct fundraising but excellent for what we use it for: intelligence, testing, and audience building. The restrictions are the reason most charities waste it - they try to use it as a fundraising tool when it is a research tool.

How it works: setup to intelligence in 4 weeks

STEP 01

Eligibility check

You need to be a registered UK charity (Charity Commission number). Most Muslim charities qualify. We check your eligibility and handle the Google for Nonprofits registration if you have not already done it.

STEP 02

Grant application and account setup

We apply for the Grant on your behalf and build your account structure - campaigns, ad groups, keywords, and extensions designed for intelligence gathering, not vanity metrics.

STEP 03

We manage. You see results.

The Grant runs under our management. You receive monthly intelligence reports: which messages worked, which audiences engaged, which pages converted. No ad platform logins to worry about - just clear, actionable insights.

STEP 04

Intelligence feeds your paid campaigns

The winning messages, audiences, and landing pages from Grant testing become the foundation of your paid campaigns through Muslim Advertising. Free research, paid scale.

What you receive each month

  • Search term report: What your potential donors actually searched for to find you
  • Message performance: Which headlines and descriptions drove engagement
  • Landing page data: Which pages converted and which leaked donors
  • Audience growth: How many new visitors were added to your remarketing pixel
  • Recommendations: What to change, test next, or scale with paid budget

You do not need to log into Google Ads. You do not need to understand campaign structure. You receive intelligence in plain language, with clear recommendations.
